This site collects no data to recognise you, carries no advertising, runs no traffic analytics and uses no cookies. Here is what actually happens when you open it.

Who processes the data
The controller is VIS S.R.L., VAT number 01319820864, based in the province of Enna, Italy. For any request about your data, including to exercise the rights listed below: osservatorio@vis.digital.
What is collected
Nothing that you give us. There are no forms, no sign-up, no newsletter, no private area. Like any server answering a request, the hosting provider records the technical details of the connection for a limited time — IP address, timestamp, page address, browser type — because without them the site can neither work nor defend itself against an attack. We do not use them to recognise anyone and we do not combine them with anything else.
Why we may do this
The legal basis is legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)) in keeping the site working and secure. Your consent is not required because there is nothing to consent to: no profiling, no advertising, no audience measurement.
Cookies: there are none
The site sets no cookies, neither its own nor third-party ones. There is no Google Analytics, no social network pixels, no maps or videos embedded from other sites. That is why you do not see the consent dialog: there would be nothing to ask, and a dialog that appears for no reason teaches people to click “accept” without reading.
The one thing your browser remembers
If you choose the light or dark theme, your browser notes it in a slot called “tema”. It stays on your device, is never sent to the server and cannot be used to recognise you: it is what any application setting does. Clearing the site data in your browser removes it.
Where what you see comes from
Everything — text, typefaces, charts, the map — is served by this site. Opening a page, your browser contacts no other address. Links to the sources (Eurostat, Frontex, UNHCR, the Italian Ministry of the Interior) are followed only if you click them, and are set up so the destination site is not told which page you came from.
Who helps us keep it running
Three providers process technical data on our behalf as processors: Vercel (page hosting), MongoDB Atlas (database) and Cloudflare R2 (archive of the original source files, stored in the European Union). Some of them may process data outside the European Union: where that happens, the transfer relies on the safeguards in Articles 44 and following of the Regulation, in particular the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
The data we publish is not about individuals
Everything on the site is aggregate statistics published by institutions: how many arrivals, how many asylum applications, how many returns. There are no names, no individual cases, no data that could identify a person. This is not a design choice: we do not work with individual-level data on this subject at all.
Your rights
You may ask us what data concerns you, to correct it, erase it, restrict its use or object to the processing. Write to osservatorio@vis.digital: we answer within one month. If you think something is wrong, you may contact the Italian data protection authority (www.garanteprivacy.it) or the authority of the country where you live.
If this page changes
If the site ever introduces traffic analytics or anything else that processes data differently, this page will be updated before that happens, and the date at the top will say so.
